Join Us in Celebrating You!
National Volunteer Week is coming up from April 27 to May 3, and we’re thrilled to celebrate the incredible difference our volunteers make every season.
Your dedication, energy, and compassion are what help DIGA’s gardens thrive — and we’re so grateful to have you as part of our community of green thumbs.
We’re hosting a Virtual Volunteer Celebration on Wednesday, May 1, at 4:30 PM, and we hope you can join us! We’ll recognize our Volunteer of the Year Award recipients and celebrate this year’s theme: “Volunteers Make Waves!”
Save the Date: May 1 at 4:30 PM
We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Meet a Few of Our Amazing Garden Volunteers!
Here’s a peek at just a couple of the incredible people who help our gardens flourish:
Jasmine Leung

Jasmine joined DIGA in 2018 and quickly became a familiar face in the garden. Her deep connection with DIGA member Maureen DeLandreville has blossomed into a meaningful friendship rooted in patience, laughter, and shared stories. From weeding together to welcoming others into their community garden, Jasmine brings consistency, heart, and a thoughtful presence to everything she does.
“I think it’s really cool to be able to help someone and give them the chance to garden.”
— Jasmine Leung

Keith Man

Keith discovered DIGA through a UBC forum and dove into volunteering with a genuine desire to connect—with plants, people, and his own story. Inspired by time spent gardening with his grandmother, Keith now works alongside DIGA member Mary Steeves, learning not only about weeding and harvesting, but also about empathy, mentorship, and presence. His curiosity and open heart are felt in every session.
“Volunteering really helps me learn how to establish a genuine human connection with another person.”
— Keith Man
